POINTS TO OUR NEED OF SALVATION
In the last article in the last issue of the Valley Baptist Visitor we established the biblical meaning of the word "salvation". It means to be saved by God from the consequences of our sin – to be saved from Hell. Like as a drowning man needs to be saved, universally, every man needs to be rescued from an eternal spiritual death.
Sin is a spiritual disease which always brings spiritual death, just as a deadly physical disease brings physical death. We all have this deadly disease of sin – whether we know it or not. The cure for this awful disease is the salvation of God which is accomplished through what Jesus Christ did on the Cross of Calvary. He died that the consequence of our sin might be paid to Him on the Cross, rather than to the sinner in Hell.
The logic and validity of this scenario is sometimes challenged by men with the attitude of: "Who does God think He is – I don’t think it’s fair and I don’t agree to the terms." Others disagree with this biblical declaration of sin and salvation by announcing that they doubt if there is a God anyway.
The futility of such arguments against the biblical perspective is proven by one great unalterable event – creation. The Bible begins with God’s announcement of His existence and what He has done: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1 This includes not only the planet we live on, but also the entire universe.
Atheistic astronomers have come to the conclusion that the universe began in an instant of time, all arising from a very small space (the big bang theory), but they insist that it was all just an accident, without Divine planning or power. Why do they not suggest that this scenario is compatible with Genesis 1:1? Just one reason! To make such an admission, would be to acknowledge we got here by means of creation – and to acknowledge creation is to acknowledge the existence of God. And if there is a God who created us, we are responsible to Him. If we admit there is a God, it is totally illogical to deny His right to write the rules and His power to enforce His rules.
The evidence of the catastrophic judgment revealed in Genesis chapter six (Noah’s flood), is everywhere on this earth. (For example, the Grand Canyon) Such evidences are explained away by the evolutionist for the same reason – acceptance of such a cataclysmic alteration of the earth’s surface totally decimates the theory of evolution. And if evolution is untrue, there is only one answer left: we were created by God.
Here we are again, back to the reality of the need for salvation. There is a God, and his rules and requirements for members of the human race are binding. His standards for sin and righteousness are right because He is God, and He has the power to back it up! If you are one who continues to argue with Him, the day is coming when you are going to be very, very, sorry.
